Our Philosophy:

It has been said that it takes a village to raise a child. We believe this concept to be true for the dogs we love. We help create a healthy lifestyle for you and your dog by offering services and products that meet a particular standard of quality. This is not a "one size fits all" retail shop and dog walking service. We customize our walks around your dogs specific needs and abilities. We sell products that keep your dogs safe, healthy and active. At Mt.Tam Dog Company we are excited to serve our dog loving community with the utmost attention and care.

Let's Go For A Walk!

Let's Go For A Walk!

At Mt. Tam Dog Company we see our dogs as our children. They deserve a quality of care that is not only the best, but completely verifiable. We strive to bring you a truly unique service with complete accountability from the moment your dog walks out of the house, until he or she returns

SAFETY

We cover a lot of ground at Mt. Tam Dog Company. We strongly believe in ON leash exercise. Although off leash can tire your pup out, it lacks the structure and discipline needed to satisfy your dogs pack mentality. On leash walks assure optimal control of the pack while hiking on trails. There are a number of potential risks encountered on the trails: fast moving mountain bikers, deer, coyotes, jackrabbits, and other dogs. Our Pack Leaders are trained to have complete control of up to (6) dogs in order to have a safe and productive hike. We believe that once our position as Pack Leader is established, we are then able to satisfy every dogs biological need to cover ground with their own pack!

ACCOUNTABILITY

In a pet business world that has valued transactions over relationships, the notion of being responsible for delivering expectations is a breathe of fresh air. Mt. Tam Dog Company aspires to deliver services of the highest quality and is not afraid to provide the necessary backup to prove it. Each dog walk is customized by using the following trail categorization based on difficulty i.e. Bunny Slope, Green Circle, Blue Square Black Diamond. We provide GPS that maps our walks distance, activity speed, time, ascent/decent and elevation. Our Pack Leader will record pick up and drop off times for each dog, as well as, provide the client with any important information we feel will be of value.

FITNESS

Our customers hire us because they want to enhance their dogs well being with the appropriate exercise.  We design a specific program for your dog by using a trail-ranking model analogous to skiing.  From bunny slopes to double black diamonds, we offer a wide range of difficulty levels.  Our pack leaders are physically capable and passionate about pushing themselves to give the upmost optimal care.  Because we monitor and track your dog’s activity with the latest GPS technologies, we are able to create the best exercise programs.

Don't Forget the Puppies...

We offer Puppy Training Classes with Mike Wombacher. Mike teaches classes, runs a small boarding/training operation and is the author of several books. Mike's training approach focuses on channeling a dogs natural drives and instincts into behaviors acceptable in the human pack. This is done primarily by the principles of positive reinforcement, as well as, through methods that appeal to the dog's canine sensibilities.

Erin with Ruby

Erin Seavey

Den Mother

Erin Seavey is our "Den Mother" in charge of retail operations.  Her passion for animals, particularly her love for dogs, is accompanied by a strong work ethic, making this business a perfect environment for her. Erin grew up in Novato, CA, which offered a beautiful and ideal landscape for her childhood dogs; Fila, Lucy and Molly. It was her relationship with her dog Ruby, however, which sparked a whole new level of love, commitment and overall interest in the welfare of dogs.

Erin graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Literature. Colorado quickly became her and Ruby’s stomping ground for all outdoor adventures.  They took advantage of the endless trails, rivers, lakes and mountains, all to which shaped her new attitude toward being an active and responsible dog owner.

In 2012 Erin happily jumped at the opportunity to take over the Alpha Dog Retail shop in Mill Valley, CA. Her customers came to know her not only for her dependability, but for her caring nature and dedication towards their dogs. This made it easy for Erin to build and keep long lasting relationships with her customers. After two years in the business, Erin has her heart set on continually improving the store and making changes she knows will better serve her dogs and their people.

Dave with Shasta

Dave Tint

Pack Leader

Dave Tint is our chief dog walker.  Dave's passion for dogs is rooted early in his childhood.  He was raised in Menlo Park, CA with three Golden Retrievers; Quaker, Oatmeal and Mandy.  The first dog of his own was a Siberian Husky--Golden Retriever mix named Shadow, who Dave claims to be his "first real love".

Dave transferred from community college to the University of San Francisco where he graduated cum laude with a degree in sociology. While attending community college, Dave began volunteer work with dogs and animals. Dave volunteered hundreds of hours over several years of service to The Marin Humane Society.  His responsibilities included cleaning and disinfecting all dog kennels and restocking clean laundry and toys. During this time he simultaneously involved himself with three separate Bay Area dog and puppy fostering programs; The Marin Human Society, The Milo Foundation and Copper's Dream.  Over several years, Dave trained and socialized fourteen dogs and puppies; some fostering periods lasting over three months at a time.  All training and socializing skills where learned at The Marin Humane Society. The fourteenth dog Dave fostered proved to be too hard to give up. Shasta was an abandoned puppy in Napa county but now shes living the dream with unlimited hikes and adventures with Dave and all his canine pals.

After graduating from USF, Dave took a job walking dogs in Mill Valley.  After several months of working as an employee, he decided that the dog life was the life for him!  Dave is truly passionate about nature and wildlife, exercise and hard work.  He says "This job is the best one in the world--I get to spend my time outdoors with dogs on arguably the most beautiful trails on earth and, in doing so, develop and enhance my beliefs of responsibility, discipline, and compassion."
